ANSO is very sensitive to our current fiscal environment, and we do not want to be a fiscal burden on our members and the Sea Services. The board of directors has overhauled the way we execute our mission and have reevaluated our conference/symposium process. Starting this year, our annual three-day conference, which averages gross total of $350,000 for 400 attendees, has been canceled until further notice. In its place, we have instituted a process of at least three one-day symposiums that will occur throughout the year - at least one in each of our regions (Eastern, Central and Western) hosted by one of our local chapters.
These one-day seminars will focused on career management and actual onsite mentoring, and will be closely aligned to key career milestone events like promotion boards, selection boards, etc. Since these seminars will be focused for our local and regional members, the cost will be minimal. Further, we expect to take advantage of today's technology and social media to broadcast these seminars to our non-regional members via our new and improved website.
As of today we have conducted two symposiums, our initial Eastern Region Symposium occurred In Crystal City, Virginia on 6 September 2013. Our second was the Western Region Symposium occurred in San Diego, California on 27 February 2014.
ANSO’s Regional Leadership Symposium will brings together Hispanic officers, civilian executives, enlisted personnel, and other senior leaders in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and maritime industry to learn from, network with, and mentor one another, as well as conduct professional development training.
