Bravo Zulu to LCDR Katuiska Pabon for earning the 2013 National IMAGE Meritorious Service Award

It is our distinct pleasure to congratulate and announce the selection of LCDR Katuiska Pabon of Sector Miami as the Coast Guard recipient of the 2013 National IMAGE Meritorious Service Award.
LCDR Pabons exemplary performance of duty while serving as a CG active duty, reserve, and civilian member aligns with the stated purpose of this award which honors military members and civilian employees who have made significant contributions to the CG mission, the advancement of Hispanic Americans and the promotion of diversity and equal opportunity within the CG and its surrounding communities.
LCDR Pabon is a recognized leader and advocate for diversity and equal opportunity. She supports CG missions while performing dual roles as a civilian port security specialist for Sector Miami and the Base Miami Beach reserve deputy administrative officer. While on active duty, LCDR Pabon supported the recovery efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and Deep Water Horizon oil spill. Also, after joining the CG reserves, she followed her passion to teach English as a second language to underprivileged children in local communities. Additionally noteworthy is LCDR Pabons service as coordinator of the Office of Global Maritime Situation Awareness Joint Office where she was instrumental in advancing global maritime information sharing in Central/South America and the Caribbean. Due to her skills and diplomacy, the islands of Jamaica, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic were added to the International Maritime Safety and Security Information System Network.
LCDR Pabon is a dedicated professional and volunteer for numerous community events and organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Race for the Cure, and the Communities in Schools of Miami. She frequently mentors Hispanic and other minority girls, motivating them to strive to achieve their dreams and career goals.
Through her distinguished service, LCDR Pabon epitomizes the CG core values of honor, respect, and devotion to duty. She will be honored, along with awardees from other military services, during the IMAGE 41st National Training Program at the Baltimore Washington International Airport Marriott Hotel on 12 September 2013.
