Awards: (ensure you follow the links below for more detailed descriptions, as well as access to nominations forms.

  1. Hidalgo Medal: For life-time leadership, dedication, and guidance in providing opportunites for Latinos in our community and the Sea Services of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marines.  Criteria: paid and active member of ANSO for 10+ years.
  2. Garcia Medal: For sustained contribution to the goals of ANSO and sustained services to beyond the call of membership.  Criteria: paid member of ANSO for 3-5 years.
  3. Legacy in Leadership and Vision: Awarded to a Flag Officer who has demonstrated sustained dedication to organizational leadership and dedication to ANSO's spirit and intent. Additionally, the nominee must demonstrate a firm personal commitment to ANSO's primary mission of opening doors for Hispanics, retaining Hispanics, and assisting in the advancement of Hispanics in Leadership.
  4. CAPT Contres Award: Outstanding Contribution for the Betterment of ANSO: For an exemplary display of leadership through personal contribution, intervention, creation, development, and/or implementation of software programs, instruments (written or physical) for the betterment of ANSO.
  5. Outstanding Chapter President Award:  Presented to one individual and is based on the achievements of the President of the chapter.  Emphasis is placed on leadership ability and support of the ideas and goals of the ANSO. The activities of the President during the current program year only are eligible.
  6. Outstanding Chapter Program Awards: Gives recogniation to the ANSO Chapter with the most outstanding chapter program.  Submissions shall demonstrate the chapter's support for the mission of ANSO and its purposes. Examples of eligible programs are Hispanic Heritage programs, youth and tutoring programs, collaborative programs with community organizations to further the ANSO image as a service organization, career development and training programs, and programs in support of officer trainees.
  7. Life-Time Achievement (25-30 Years Active Duty):  Recognizes a member of ANSO who is retired or retiring from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marines with at least 25-30 years of active duty or reserves, who has served as a significant role model and mentor ot the Hispanic community as well as dedication to the core mission and values of ANSO.
