ANSO awards are established to: (1) recognize the achievements of those who
excel in the accomplishments of ANSO goals and objectives; and (2) to motivate
other members to assist in the accomplishment of these goals and objectives.
Chapters and members in good standing
may be nominated for awards and honors listed below to be presented at the
annual General Convention, unless otherwise noted in the award description.

Hidalgo Medal: The medal is awarded for lifetime leadership, dedication, and guidance in providing opportunities for Hispanics and Latinos in our community and the Sea Services of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. Any member nominated for this award must be an active member of ANSO for at least 10 years.
Garcia Medal: The medal is awarded for sustained contribution to the goals of ANSO and sustained services to beyond the call of membership. Any member nominated for this award must be an active member of ANSO for at least two years.
Legacy in Leadership and Vision Award: Awarded to Flag Officers who have demonstrated sustained dedication to organizational leadership and dedication to ANSO's spirit and intent. Additionally, the nominee must demonstrate a firm personal commitment to ANSO's primary mission of opening doors for Hispanics, retaining Hispanics, and assisting in the advancement of Hispanics in leadership.

Awarded to a Flag Officer who has demonstrated sustained dedication to
organizational leadership and dedication to ANSO’s spirit and intent.
Additionally, the nominee must demonstrate a firm personal commitment to
ANSO’s primary mission of opening doors for Hispanics, retaining
Hispanics, and assisting in the advancement of Hispanics in leadership
- CAPT Contres Award: Outstanding
Contribution for the Betterment of ANSO: For exemplary display of
leadership through personal contribution and achievement for the
betterment of ANSO.
- Lifetime Achievement Award (25-30
Years Active Duty): Recognizes a member of ANSO who is retired or retiring
from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine with at least
25 years of active duty or reserve service, who has distinguished him- or
herself as a significant role model and mentor to the Hispanic community
as well as dedication to the core mission and values of ANSO.
- Excellence in Leadership and
Recognizes an ANSO National Board member who has demonstrated sustained
dedication to leadership and vision toward ANSO’s spirit and intent, as
well as a firm personal commitment to ANSO’s primary mission of assisting
the Sea Service Chiefs’ efforts in Hispanic workforce recruitment and
retention by fostering the personal growth and professional development of
officers, enlisted, and civilian personnel; providing mentoring,
networking, training, and educational opportunities; and engaging the
Hispanic community through outreach initiatives.
- Outstanding Chapter President
Presented to one individual and is based on the achievements of the
President of the chapter. Emphasis is placed on leadership ability and
support of the ideas and goals of ANSO. The activities of the President
during the current Program Year only are eligible for consideration.
- Outstanding Chapter Program Award: Gives recognition to the ANSO
Chapter with the most outstanding chapter program. Submissions shall
demonstrate the chapter’s support for the mission of ANSO and its
purposes. Examples of eligible programs are Hispanic Heritage programs,
youth and tutoring programs, collaborative programs with community
organizations to further the ANSO image as a service organization, career
development and training programs, and programs in support of officer
