October 7, 2022 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

Please join ANSO and the CTR Factor Non-Profit Alliance in the inauguration of the ANSO/CTR Factor Non-Profit Alliance Joint Leadership Institute with our first leadership series in celebration Hispanic Heritage Month. The event will be virtual and will consist of two presentations.

1. Culturally Intelligent Leadership

by Suri Surinder

1:00 – 2:00 PM EST

DESCRIPTION:

There are millions of ways in which behaviors are different across US and global cultures in terms of how people kiss, bow, and shake hands.

But all significant ethnographic and sociological research indicates that there are only 7 ways in which people’s values and norms are different. These include their orientations towards hierarchy, groups, communication, relationships, time, work, and change.

This session will cover how these 7 norms vary by race/ethnicity, gender and generation in the US and globally, with a special focus on the Latino culture.

It will examine these norms through four assessments – self-assessment, other-assessment, constituency assessment (focus on Latinos and Latinas), and organization assessment (focus on Sea Services) – and provide tools to help us quickly identify where a person of interest might stand on them.

It will also reveal bridging mechanisms that enable us to collaborate better with folks who might at a different spot on these norms than we are.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1) Inform us of seven ways in which internal values, beliefs, and philosophies differ.
2) Collaborate more effectively as a trusted advisor with country officials, a respected partner with colleagues, and active military with senior leaders.
3) Engage better as troops, NCO’s and officers in order to positively impact the talent experience we provide.
4) Execute better in project initiation, interaction, and implementation in order to positively impact the military service we provide.

2. Silver Medal Leadership

by Jeff Marquez

2:00 – 3:00 PM EST

DESCRIPTION:

Leaders Highlights, and golden nuggets. The challenges for successfully leading others are enormous:

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Leaders:

  1. Create the right climate and practice the right habits
  2. Influence your boss
  3. Influence your peers

Lead your Team, build commitment, and get results.  Add to these challenges that you often operate with uncertainty and ambiguity. Most leaders punt. They do not lead, so they do not make any impact.

Your success as a leader depends on you having an impact and adding value to your Team, the boss, peers, and customers.
